Design Thinking

Course summary

Design Thinking focuses on employing user-centered methodologies to solve problems and find solutions. This course on ‘Design Thinking’ gives insight on the non-linear, iterative process that teams can use to understand users, challenge assumptions, redefine problems and create innovative solutions to prototype and test. The course explains the five phases of design thinking and delves deep into each.

Learning outcome

By the end of the course, learner will be able to:

  • Use empathy and a deep human focus to gain insights which may reveal new and unexplored ways of approaching a problem.
  • Reframe the perceived problem or challenge at hand, and gain new perspectives.
  • Demonstrate collaborative, multi-disciplinary teamwork to leverage the skills, personalities and thinking styles in order to solve multifaceted problems.
  • Explore selected ideas, use rapidly modelling potential solutions.
  • Prototype and test the chosen idea before deployment.

Modules

The introductory module provides insights on what design thinking actually means through practical examples and real-time case studies.

The foundation of the whole design thinking process is empathy. This module helps the learners to use a beginner’s mindset and helps understand how to immerse in the user’s experience to uncover deep needs and insights.

This course helps the learners to define the problem with a point of view (POV). It helps in understanding who is the user ; what is their deep, unmet need; why is this insightful

The design thinking process goes through a cycle of generative flaring and selective focusing. This module decodes the ideation phase. It helps the learners to flare out and generate as many ideas as possible.

The course outlines the importance of protyping and testing. Prototyping is where the fun begins. The learners are put through various situations where they understand how to share or co-create a prototype with the users and get feedback.
